Nitrogen removal characteristics of wet–dry alternative constructed wetlands

چکیده

Abstract Dry–wet alternate constructed wetland is an effective method to remove nitrogen elements in the tail water of sewage treatment plant. According reaeration mechanism wet–dry alternative wetland, denitrification effect and influence characteristics dry–wet on plant were studied under low temperature. The results showed that removal rates each element reached 20–40% with time at 10°C. Under alternation dissolved oxygen (DO) was significantly correlated ( p < 0.05), DO rate which means wetlands use dry wet operation, can affect content efficiency wetlands, providing a technical basis for regulating operation ecosystems.

Enhanced nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands: effects

Four horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSFCWs), named HSFCW1 (three-stage, without step-feeding), HSFCW2 (three-stage, with step-feeding), HSFCW3 (five-stage, without step-feeding) and HSFCW4 (five-stage, with step-feeding) were designed to investigate the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) and step-feeding on nitrogen removal. High removal of 90.9% COD, 99.1% ammonium nitrogen and...

Factors Controlling Biogeochemical Removal of Nitrogen in Constructed Wetlands

The Long Island Sound (LIS) estuary is affected by summer hypoxia as a result of high nitrogen loads from New York and Connecticut watersheds. In order to mitigate hypoxia, managers have established a goal of reducing the nitrogen load from nonpoint sources by 10%. One strategy to reduce N loads from nonpoint sources is the use of constructed wetlands, which provide an ecosystem service by remo...

Removal processes for arsenic in constructed wetlands.

Arsenic pollution in aquatic environments is a worldwide concern due to its toxicity and chronic effects on human health. This concern has generated increasing interest in the use of different treatment technologies to remove arsenic from contaminated water. Constructed wetlands are a cost-effective natural system successfully used for removing various pollutants, and they have shown capability...

Removal Mechanisms in Constructed Wastewater Wetlands

The use of constructed wetlands is a relatively new technology but the system is gaining popularity due to its low tech system for treating wastewater (DeBusk, 1999b).Constructed wetlands have found to be effective in treating domestic wastewater where municipalities are concerned with reducing suspended solids, organic matter, phosphorus, nitrogen, and pathogens. Constructed wetlands mimic nat...
